odd dreams
i rarely dream. or maybe i should say i rarely remember my dreams. but last night i had a couple of them (both incredibly short) that i do actually remember. and i'd like to take a little time to share because i've begun to think of them as bad omens and would love for people to nay-say me. :)
dream the first:
night. late night. maybe 1 or 2 in the morning late. i'm at my parents' house with someone (don't know really who this was). i'm standing on the landing near the laundry room. i'm talking to whoever this person is. probably saying goodnight or something when these two men start running down the street past the house. they looked criminal. like they were trying to outdistance the hand of the law. and they were yelling things like "hurry up!" and "run, fuck, run!" me and this person look at each other as if to say, "that was weird," when suddenly the two criminal men are racing up the stairs at us. i think one of them had a gun. and they were telling us to give them the keys to our car. so me and this person try to run into the house and shut the door on the criminals. we get inside my parents' house, but one of the thugs, the with one with the gun, slips his hand in the door before we can get it shut. so we're slamming our weight into the door trying to get the bad guy to drop the gun or recoil his arm. the gun goes off.
end of dream.
it was very scary. i remember feeling startled and panicky after this dream.
dream the second:
i think i'm in college still. and i have to pick up some prescription from the pharmacy. so i drive to the pharmacy, put money in the meter, and pick up my prescription. i walk outside and my car is gone. not only is my car gone, but my keys are gone, too. not only that, but my license is missing. and wait, so is my bag and the prescription i just picked up. everything has disappeared. i reach into my pocket and have 15 cents. i decide i will take the bus home. i wait at the bus stop for a little while. the bus comes and i board. unfortunately for me, bus fare is $1.35. i put my three nickels in the machine. the bus driver is waiting for me to put in more money. i ask the bus driver how much a single ride costs to stall for time. he says it's $1.35. i just stand there in the bus well not knowing what else to do.
end of dream.
yeah, so those are kinda weird dreams to have. i know i probably shouldn't feel scared about them, but it's just weird when i remember dreams, because they're usually not good dreams.

The first dream means that you fear bird droppings landing on your car. This, the fear of bird droppings landing on one's car, is one of the four basic human motivators. It is almost exclusively the cause of any dream involving stairs. Stairs lead to heaven, birds traverse the heavens, and so on. I have no idea what's going on in your second dream; too complex.
But, seriously, just figure out what's bugging you. Something that's giving you anxiety probably caused the dreams. Figure out what that is, and you'll be able to deal with that something consciously. Oh, and if you want to remember dreams more regularly, try this trick: Keep a notepad near your bed and write down what you dreamed of the night before. It's okay if you can't remember anything the first time. Soon, you'll start to remember and soon you won't even need the notepad.
very astute observations/dream analysis there, glasstrack. heh
i thought about getting up and writing the dream down, but the second one came shortly after the first. or maybe it just felt like it did. in any case, keeping a notepad by the bed would also be helpful when i'm coming up with lines for poems. also, it'll come in handy for those middle-of-the-night hangman games. :)
It's clear that you were anxious about missing poker this week. In both dreams, your car is at risk of being taken away from you or has been taken. The car in these dreams represents your hole cards (car + ds = cards). I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the car you were driving was an A4, since your latest habit of playing looser gets you calling with A4o UTG (under the gun, see?).
Now if you make sure that you're at poker next week, you'll see your dreams change dramatically--you'll be flying American Airlines to go to the old Southwest for a getaway at a ranch featuring real cowboys or to Paris to party with the Hilton sisters.
So there's two things you gotta do: show up, tighten up.
I suppose I ought to follow GT's lead and write a second, more serious comment.
You probably remember these dreams more vividly because of the anxiety they cause, particularly if they caused you to wake up immediately. So I wouldn't necessarily read anything into the fact that you remember them.
However, GT's advice regarding introspection and journal keeping is probably a load of horseshit--I mean, a good thing to do.
Without any further knowledge of what's going on in your life, I'd say that you have some sort of anxiety over losing material posessions or wealth--which may mean that either you think you don't deserve it (and therefore are at risk of losing it), or you think too much about it (and therefore deserve to lose it... heh).
You definitely don't deserve an iPod, I can tell you that much.
But seriously you might be thinking too much about this stuff. I know that when I play too much poker, Tetris, Civ, or something else, I start to dream about cards, falling blocks, settling new cities, etc. Oh, and speaking of Tetris, if you check out my blog about the new iMac, you can click the Mac SE link to a Mac SE "emulator" that has old school Tetris on it. I played that one a lot.
And check out Machine Samba for a post on his love life. The monkey can write after all.
holy shit, glyphic! you may be onto something there! i *did* have this dream on a wednesday night. car + ds = cards! there's the whole under the gun thing! often i find your antics at the poker table "criminal." wow! this makes perfect sense. but probably not.
hmmmm. but we have been dealing with car issues. like we're thinking of maybe getting another car. perhaps i'm secretly wanting my car to be taken from me so i can get a newer one.
heh, you know what, the bus dream can also be "read" as a poker dream. i've slowly been losing all my chips, disappearing little by little. i've got to make some kind of move. so this is it, i gotta get on board the bus. so i take whatever is left in my pocket, my last 15 cents, and push it into the machine. the pot is $1.35. the dealer is waiting on me, it's my action. i'm not sure what to do because it might mean going home.
i'll probably have more of these dreams now since i don't think i'll be there next week either. :\
