i can't stop smiling about this. pretty soon it will cease to be an in-joke for all the cool people to wink and laugh about. but that's alright. because it deserves spotlight attention.
what exactly am i going on about?
well, it's this: me and you and everyone we know
it's quirky. it's charming. it's romantic. it's one of my new favorite movies.
sometimes the need to connect with another person becomes so desperate that you do the absurd to make them notice. you'll wear socks on your ears. you'll walk by their work place over and over again even though it's miles out of the way. you'll imagine a lifetime together and create conversations that haven't yet happened. you'll get caught up in the daydream and the creativity of the pursuit. this movie explores those forms of connection, offering results that are precious, comical, bizarre, and essentially very human.
i love how the innocent and the mundane can become loaded with meaning, with magic. a sales pitch for a shoe is heard as a romantic invitation. a walk down the block transposed into a metaphor for the life of a relationship. it's these tiny, nuanced, alternate realities that makes watching this movie so enjoyable, that makes life so wonderful. you just need to open your eyes to the subtlety and decipher all the hidden beauty behind me and you and everyone we know.
